Austin area playwright chosen finalists as national African-American play festival

Two Austin area playwrights — Travis Tate of Austin and Ron Jones Jr. of Round Rock — have been chosen finalists in Fade to Black, a national African-American play festival in Houston.

Their short plays — Tate’s “Whipped”  and Jones’ “Unsolicited Material” will be staged in Houston June 11-13.

Tate is a University of Texas in Austin with a bachelor of arts degree in theater and an emphasis in acting and playwriting in 2012. This fall he’ll enter the master’s program at UT’s Michener Center for Writers.
