Remember how the Miró Quartet, as part of its 20th anniversary, was giving away a free master class to a school music program, with hopefuls submitting videos via social media?
The program and its students will receive a visit from the Miró — at the quartet’s expense — that will include a masterclass.
The winning video submission (http://on.fb.me/1Qr7mrZ) came from Fox Chapel Area High School Orchestra under the instruction of Mairi Cooper. After Cooper won Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Award her students decided to pay it forward by entering into the Miró Quartet’s contest on her behalf.
Joshua Gindele, founding member of the Miró Quartet remarks, “This educator really inspired all four of us — having transcended the limitations of what people think is possible within the public school system, and allowing students to transcend themselves. We cannot wait to meet her and her students in person.”
The Miró next concert in Austin is Jan. 22 at UT’s Butler School of Music. On the program is Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major and Chausson’s Concerto in D Major for Violin, Piano and String Quartet.
