No strangers to bringing classical and alt classical music to bars and clubs, Austin indie music group LOLA has staged an

Now LOLA founder and artistic director Liz Cass has come up with another opportunity for Austin’s classically-trained musicians to play in a bar. (LOLA stands for Local Opera, Local Artists).

Starting June 30, LOLA is launching a monthly concert series at 4th Tap Brewing.

The Thursday night concerts will spotlight local classical vocalists. And first up is the critically-acclaimed Cass herself in concert with one of Austin’s favorite composers, pianists and musical directors, Peter Stopshchinski. The duo will perform music of Verdi, Schumann, Fauré, and some by Stopschinski himself.

Tickets are $10 and will include a token for $1 off beers on the performance evenings. See lolaaustin.org

Next month on July 21  it’s soprano Sara Ann Mitchell, mezzo-soprano Claudia Chapa, and pianist Chuck Dillard.

Then August 25  Cass is joined by pianist Graham Yates to perform the music of William Bolcom and Jason Robert Brown.

LOLA’s not the first indie classical venture to land in the cooperatively-owned North Austin brewery. Earlier this spring Fast Forward Fest staged a riveting concert there with our critic Luke Quinton calling the venue “the kind of space Austin’s new music crowd has been waiting for.”

And next week, indie chamber ensemble Revel kicks off its Solstice Festival line-up of concerts Tuesday at 4th Tap.
