It’s here. It’s free. It’s all over Austin.
Sunday is Austin Museum Day, an annual happening at nearly 40 museums, cultural sites and historic destinations, all of which offer free admission and a panoply of fun stuff to do.
• The Texas Memorial Museum hosts its super-popular Identification Day with scientists and experts from around Central Texas on hand to identify natural objects such as fossils, bones, rocks and prehistoric archeological materials.
• Save Our Cemeteries will give tours of Oakwood Cemetery, Austin’s oldest city-owned cemetery, founded in 1839. Among the 23,000 burials are several Texas governors, historical notable and there are two historic Jewish sections.
• The Elisabeth Ney Museum — the 1892 former studio and home of the German-born sculptor — has live music, art activities, new installations, caricature drawing and food trucks.
